A ratio, not a complete assessment
BMI is calculated as weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. At 80 kg and 1,80 metres, that is approximately 24,7. The same result can apply to people with different body compositions.
According to the Voedingscentrum , BMI says nothing about the distribution of fat and muscle mass. Interpretation also depends on age and personal circumstances, among other things. Do not use the calculator for children or during pregnancy. With high muscle mass, the result has limited usefulness.
Use a number in the right context
A BMI result does not determine a training goal and is not a diagnosis. If you have questions about weight or health, discuss them with your GP or dietitian. They can consider more information than this simple calculation.
Mainly want to organise your training? Record which plan you follow and what you did during a session. A training log answers a different question from a body measurement: it shows your own workout history.
